LONDON, UK —Men who are being prescribed a dose of erectile dysfunction drug Viagra often find themselves facing stiffer competition from those who prefer to keep their sexual prowess. If you’re lucky enough to be in the UK with your erection problems, you might be asking how the drugs can help you. Here, we’ll answer the questions, and how they can be taken seriously.
What is Erection?
Men with erectile dysfunction (ED) are increasingly likely to try the drug Viagra and take it before their sexual encounters, says Dr. Peter LeBrun, professor of urology at the University of Birmingham.
However, some men find it hard to take Viagra or to even consider using it to treat erectile dysfunction, says Dr. Michael Connelly, a urology professor at the University of Birmingham.
If you’re prescribed Viagra or its generic version, doctors will recommend lifestyle changes such as reducing stress and exercising, and having a drink and time for sex. The drug can be taken on an empty stomach, and the drug can be taken with a glass of water.
A recent survey found that 18% of men had taken Viagra or their generic Viagra before sex, compared with 7% of men in their 30s and 40s.
Viagra is the first drug for men with ED. It contains the same active ingredient as Viagra, which works by blocking the PDE5 enzyme in the penis.
However, Viagra is also known to increase the blood flow to the penis, which makes it easier to get and maintain an erection, says LeBrun, the lead researcher in the new study. In fact, more than one-third of men who take Viagra are prescribed a dose that works better than a placebo.
Dr. John Galsby of the University of Manchester’s Sexual Medicine Unit in Manchester toldSexIndustry.comthat the new study was a “big surprise”, because although Viagra is already available in the UK, it is not a panacea for the condition.
It can cause “difficulties” when taking the drug, he says, which could make it harder to get and maintain an erection, such as headaches and mood swings.
The drug is also available as a prescription-only pill, which may help men with ED. But some men will simply take it and never take it again, says Connelly, the lead researcher in the study.
A small number of men taking Viagra can become impotent when they take it, says LeBrun, who is also the lead researcher in the new study. Viagra should be taken for as long as men are taking the drug, but it can take around three to four weeks to work. Doctors will also prescribe it for up to three years, he says.
The drug is also known to cause erectile dysfunction, which could make it harder to get and maintain an erection, says LeBrun.
But, he adds, some men who take Viagra do need regular treatment and are not able to do sexual activity due to side effects.
Viagra should be taken only by men who have an erection lasting for more than four hours.
“I think a lot of men are very, very reluctant to take this drug,” Connelly says.
The new study found that Viagra was more effective than placebo in treating erectile dysfunction, and its side effects were not significantly more common. It also showed that men who took Viagra were less likely to get side effects from the drug.
In fact, it also showed that men who took Viagra had an average of more ED symptoms in the first three months of taking the drug than those who took the placebo. The researchers also found that those taking Viagra were more likely to have erectile dysfunction than those who took the placebo.
Overall, men who took Viagra had a mean total ED score of 8.4 points. But there was a 3.2 point difference in the mean total ED score between the two groups. It’s unclear how Viagra may have caused ED in these men.
The study also found that Viagra was effective for most men with ED. However, it was found that men taking Viagra had a higher percentage of erectile dysfunction symptoms in the first three months of the drug. The results were based on a larger population.
The headlines give inuring confidence to those who buy Viagra online.
Men are more likely to buy Viagra online than they were a year ago, study suggests.
The findings, from the UK's biggest health scheme, show that purchases of the erectile dysfunction drug up to 36 hours after using the internet were far more common than they were a year ago.
The survey of 4,000 men, conducted between 2010 and 2013, was analysed to compare erectile dysfunction drugs bought on the internet with those bought on the internet, or by telephone and posted on e-commerce websites.
Erectile dysfunction drugs are a growing problem for men. In the UK alone, more than half of men aged 50 or over said they had used a particular drug before deciding to buy it on the internet. About half, about two-thirds, and about two thirds, of the drugs bought last year have been bought on the internet.
Online purchases of the erectile dysfunction drugs, also known as Viagra, are increasingly offered on the internet. A spokesman for the drug company Dr Fox, which owns the online pharmacy from Dr Fox, said: "Online purchases of the erectile dysfunction drugs, also known as Viagra, are a growing problem for men. About half, and about two thirds, of the drugs bought last year has been bought on the internet.
The findings, from the UK's biggest health scheme, reveal that erectile dysfunction drugs are a problem.
Researchers at the University of Ottery, University College London and the University of Bristol analysed prices of erectile dysfunction drugs on the e-commerce websites eDrugstore.com and eDrugstore.com, respectively.
"Viagra is one of the most popular erectile dysfunction drugs, sold over-the-counter," said Professor Paul Witty, the university's chairman.
Dr Witty said erectile dysfunction drugs were cheaper than other drugs on the market, such as aspirin and morphine.
But prices were much higher on the Internet than a year ago, and the number of men buying erectile dysfunction drugs was higher.
"Online purchases of the erectile dysfunction drugs, also known as Viagra, are a growing problem for men," Dr Witty added.
The findings suggest that men who buy Viagra online are less likely to buy a cheaper drug than a year ago, and that the problem will continue.
Professor Witty said erectile dysfunction drugs were cheaper than other drugs on the market, such as aspirin and morphine.
"The price of erectile dysfunction drugs on the e-commerce websites has increased in the past year," he added.
Dr Witty also said that online pharmacies should only be taken under the supervision of a healthcare professional, and that men who buy drugs online should avoid buying them from unverified sources.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) said that although erectile dysfunction drugs are a problem, they are also more common in younger men.
Erectile dysfunction drugs, also known as PDE5 inhibitors, are a group of medicines that work by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping to achieve and maintain an erection.
They are sold under the brand name Viagra and are the most popular erectile dysfunction drug in the UK. The tablets are sold under the brand name Cialis, while the brand name Levitra is sold under the name Staxyn.
Both drugs are available over the counter, but the brand name is sold as a generic drug, so the cheaper generic drugs are sold only for the brand name.
Erectile dysfunction drugs do not cure erectile dysfunction, but can help men regain their erections.
